CAJON PASS |
American N Gauge Layout

Photographs taken by Craig Tiley
Cajon Pass, Cajon pronounced Ca - Hone, was first developed by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company to develop the new state of California.
To this end they took the easiest route from the high desert of Arizona through Cajon Pass to reach California.
Later on in the life of the pass the Union Pacific also surveyed a route but with steeper gradients as the best route had been used by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.
The layout depicts the route where it divides from a single track to dual track. Both lines have a passing loop and Union Pacific has a helper siding as it the steeper of the two routes.
Both routes wind their way up independently through the mountainous region clinging to rock edges and crossing a valley on a man made structures.
There is no level track on the visible part of the layout.
